This grab bar collection was designed for people with visual deficits.
Falls are the leading cause of death and injury among the elderly and are more likely if someone has a visual issue, such as, cataracts, macular degeneration, or an aging eye.
Improving contrast and lighting, and reducing the glare, are vital for safe and comfortable living. There are many important ways to increase the ability to see and function safely and independently in the environment.
Colored grab bars are a necessity when designing a bathroom for someone with low vision. High contrasts make the difference between safely being able to see the grab bars to use them and just grabbing blindly and hoping to grab something solid.
Research shows that yellow as a background for someone with macular degeneration helps contrasts to 'pop'. As an OT I find that there always seems to be a color people with low vision can see better than other colors. Test to see what color is best for you and yours.
